![]() Some idols seem to never have English captions, and I'll probably never get into their music. I'm too distracted wondering what the lyrics are, so I don't have any fun watching and don't feel like continuing to watch for no reason. If a music video has no English captions, I probably won't make it past 30 seconds. After a few rounds, I can turn captions off to focus on the visuals of the video. When I watch a music video for the first few times, I have English captions on and basically only read the captions. ![]() It's the first thing I think about when I listen to a new song (sound/style is close second). Lyrics and meaning is very important to me. How do you all approach music? Can understanding the words behind a song make or break it for you? They could be singing about rubber duckies and I'd still be vibing to it. If I like how it sounds? I like how it sounds. Lyrics have never really been an important factor for me, even for songs in my native tongue. This doesn't just apply to K-Pop either, as I listen to multiple genres and many singers/bands from quite a few different countries. Vocals are just another instrument adding color to whatever you're listening to. ![]() Music, at least to me, doesn't NEED to be understood. I used to get really annoyed when it'd happen, but I've heard it so often that it's becoming a scratched record. One of the biggest hurdles/comments I run into when people find out I listen to K-Pop is, "But you can't understand what they're saying!" I'm trying to come at this topic unbiased, as I've been a fan of the genre for many years and I'm also an anime fan, so reading subtitles comes as second nature to me. ![]()
